Have been with my savings bank for over 11 years with a passbook and no overdraft facility. Now debt free, having had default in 2001, although listed as 2006, reclaimed ppi and debt cleared. I have approached my bank to change account and they have issued Visa Electron card, phoned them and advised my paperwork is in head office and have to await my application to find out why I was issued Visa Electron card as maybe I did not meet their criteria!! Should I approach other banks for a current account with Visa, not Electron or will I be rejected elsewhere due to old default, even though all cleared. At the end of the day I have been paying mortgages on properties for last 30+ years and never missed a payment, only late once. Who decides who gets what, when other people can have 20 credit cards & other debts and get credit thrown at them! Infuraites me, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Why did you have a late payement that 1 time becaue if it was for sickness or extenuating circumstances you can have that added to your credit rerport file0

Igonore what Lizzie says, putting this on your credit file won't make a difference at all. In fact it can have the opposite effect If you do this any credit application you make will then have to be manually checked and can slow down the process.
It maybe worth applying for another account with a different bank than the one you have your savings and current account with. Though don't apply for to many in one go as this will also have an effect on your credit file for 6 to 12 months.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Thanks for all your replies. Is it better to stick with what I've got at moment and apply again in next 12 months?
I don't want multiple applications to affect my credit score even more. Who knows if I contact bank again once they have my paperwork I can them fight with them to have Visa issued as opposed to Visa Electron and site my time with them & the way I have conducted my account and kept in black.0
