When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!

I am new to this site and saving money and budgeting due to redundancy and not started my new job yet... so I am attempting to take all the tips I can get from this site (there have been loads!!) and reduce the spending by having no spend days and meal planning which is going very well so far, I need to start preparing for the winter, already use the tumble dryer alot less but it rained everyday for almost two months!! So washing on the line as often as weather pemits and airers all over the house!! No debt but need to get some savings! Making all food out of the cupboards and freezer today and making some muffins so I hope that keeps me occupied and out of the shops!!

    Hi everyone

Got OH to transfer me some £££ - hoping I haven't gone over my overdraft again with a bl00dy subscription for toothbrush head replacements

    Soup for lunch

Free tea in work; no tea at home

Had a 4-min shower - I know because I timed it :rotfl: (every little helps!)

I need to switch gas and elec but there was a problem with my gas readings and I hadn't been able to give any since I moved in in Dec, which means I now owe £100+. Does anyone know if I leave my current company whether I'd need to pay that off in one swoop?

grrr to the od - anyway you can try to get a refund?

re the gas & elec yes you will get a leaving bill. You might be able to pay in installments. Maybe a post over on the utilities board?

    Hello all!

I've entered some competitions today (one is to win a washing machine!)
Found some things to list on eBay, which I'll work through his afternoon.
Lunch and dinner from what we have in cupboard/fridge
Husband cycling home from work (he left his bike the other day so saves me 8 miles today)
Wrote a list of things we need to do/buy for winter prep :p thankfully it isn't too long but going to have to budget for an interior door and getting my kitchen tiled (got tiles last year so need adhesive and grout etc and butter my dad up so he will lay them :o
Not got much planned but hopefully a NSD (already spent £50 but that was for the business not personal so not counting that)

Dinner - from meal plan for this week using up some french beans from the garden
    Checked banks
All money ready in savings account waiting to pay CC bill off (might as well earn interest on it for a few days before I pay it!)
    NSD
Free cup of coffee when I dropped kids off at club (I helped with the registrations)
Washing on line today - before it piddles down all weekend!
Walked kids to the club so no car used. Will walk to get them too.

    Afternoon all,

Thanks for starting us off DNMS, good luck with not smoking. If you're worried about putting on weight just make sure you're surrounded by plenty of healthy snacks, & when you're at home & get the urge to smoke/snack do some exercise instead to take your mind off it all.
La e - Fingers crossed re OD, & I hope you manage to sort the gas bill, I think it would depend on the company in question as to whether or not they'd let you pay in installments. Good luck!

    Today's plan:-
    • Food from stores
    • Leftovers for dinner - Another veggie night :)
    • Popped to Mr T's on my lunchbreak to pick up some fresh bits
    • Make use of free water at work
    • Log calories using free app
    • Charge phone at work
    • Check online banking
    • Trying to declutter a bit & do some flylady
    • Must try & do a survey or 2
    • Keep a log of noise for council
    • Free exercise on pole tonight if there's time!
    • Find a nice but cheap pressie for my youngest niece's birthday, she's 1 next week! Really need to do this!
    • Catch up on yesterday's thread
    • Washing on eco setting
    • Hang up to dry
    • Read Martin's email as I only skimmed it yesterday
Have a great, MSE day everyone! x

  • Afternoon all, not very MSE for me today as I am going to get my hair cut at 5pm - although needed to attract that very-rich boyfriend so could turn out to be MSE :rotfl:

    Today I will:
    • Check bank account
    • Send off car proof of no claims for discount
    • Send off speculative PPI letters
    • List 3 items on eBay (restricted number )
    • Sort out some bootfair stuff for the weekend
    • List some books on green metropolis.
Need to think of a way to make an extra £300 as that's my budget short-fall next month. Ideas welcome!
