Paralympic Ticket problem

Options
Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I purchased some paralympic opening ceremony tickets last week, but unfortunately I found out yesterday my nan is no longer able to attend due to an illness. So I went on to the official paralympic ticket resale website and tried to put her ticket up for resale yesterday afternoon, however it kept coming up with a message along the lines of - due to high demand, we are unable to process this request at this time please try again later. So I did try later...all afternoon, and all evening. When I finally did manage to get into the system it says that my ticket is now not eligible for resale as it is less than 7 days before the event!

So to cut a long story short, I rang customer services and they said that they blocked people trying to resell tickets yesterday from getting onto the website as there were so many people trying to log on to buy tickets and the people trying to resell would possibly stop the server from working. They said there is nothing they can do and that there is no way I can now resell my ticket  I asked to speak to the manager but I was told he is 'busy' and there is no point talking to him as there is nothing he can do about it.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with this and perhaps had better luck with customer services? It seems so silly that other people will now miss out on going to the opening ceremony because of their rubbish website!

Have you asked friends and family? I doubt a single ticket would have sold most people want at least two.

Well originally I was going to give my nan the ticket as a birthday gift (paid for my myself) but as it's a mid range ticket and not one of the cheaper ones (cost me £125) it's a bit difficult finding another family member who can afford it and at short notice. Yeah, I did think that, but I thought it was worth at least trying to resell a single ticket, because I know there are lots of people who would have loved the opportunity to go. Their website has been nothing but trouble from start to finish and their customer services are so unhelpful.

Try asking your friends via facebook or send an email around at work etc. Someone may be prepared to pay £125 who really wants to go but couldn't afford to buy multiple tickets to go as a family and wouldn't want to go alone.

Agreed, ask around on Facebook and put it out on Twitter if you use it or know someone who'd be willing to do so. I'm sure there'll be someone out there who will take it - it's just a matter of tracking them down!

Thank guys, i've given it a go, no takers yet but we'll see.

You'd think that there would be some other sort of ticket resale system in place for this type of thing so purchasers could resell directly to people who want to buy them at face value. Rather than having to rely on a middle man who has a cut off time of 7 days prior to the event. I suppose in their eyes they have got their money so it doesn't matter if there are empty seats and dissapointed people.

    What about ebay?
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
  • I'm totally tempted to buy it off you. I'm performing and desperately looking for two or three tickets for family but no joy, I missed out in the ticket drop yesterday and am constantly looking for more. I can't quite stretch to the next price band they currently have available (£300 each) but am tempted to say to hell with it and take the money from my savings. If you had two or three I'd probably make you an offer!

Argh it's so infuriating that there are probably a number of people in your position trying to offload tickets at short notice, and a number of people in my position still desperately searching but there is no mechanism to join us up!

I hope they do mind that there might be empty seats, I don't want to perform to an empty stadium :(

I don't think it's realistic to expect to be able to get a refund at such short notice - I don't think other events such as major concerts would facilitate such a thing.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

redpete - other events would not be a problem to sell on ebay though - these tickets would be pulled immediately.
