I would appreciate some help from people who are on esa. I had to fill out the esa50 for my mum and we got a letter from the jobcentre that she has been placed in the support group and will recieve payments from 17th august. Before this, she was getting income support every thursday fortnight. I checked for her and theres still nothing in her account. Anybody any idea how long first payment should take and whhens appropriate to contact dwp that she hasnt recieved it. Thanks

I transferred from JSA to ESA and I had one payment of JSA then 2 weeks later I received my ESA.

It's usually paid 2 weeks in arrears, so it should be 2 weeks after the 17th, but she should still have received IS up until then.

If in doubt, give them a call :)

To add, I would advise getting hold of a copy of the medical report if she had a face to face medical (ESA85) but reading between the lines she didn't have one in which case there probably will be an ESA85A ATOS report that is also worth requesting a copy of from the DWP. It should detail what recommendation was made to the DWP regarding her Work Capability Assessment (recommendation that was probably rubber stamped effectively by the DWP) and indeed should give a prognosis which will likely be used to determine her next assessment timing.

The payment day for ESA depends on the last two digits of the NI.
