points and insurance
Options
Hello everyone.
I'm very annoyed today. I recently got 3 points on my clean licence (it's been clean for over 5 years). I renewed my insurance just before I found out about the points.
Like a good honest person I have just rang up my insurance company (directline) to inform them, and they have put my insurance up by £60!!!!
This sounds way too much..... does anyone have advice? Is it worth me changing insurance companies? I didn't think they would be so bothered about 3 points, but my insurance company is charging me more than the bl***y fine itself.
All help appreciated

If you cancel your existing policy now,you will probably find they will charge you for doing so and you may be no better off, more so as you have just renewed.
Not knowing how much your insurance premium was ,i.e do you pay £250 OR £1250?!!,it's hard to say if the increase they want is fair or not.
You may have to "bite the bullet"and pay but shop around next time. There are two sides to every story.

My policy was around £360, so £60 is a significant rise.
Just to keep you all posted......... I was prepared to start again with all my shopping around. I rang Directline and they were not prepared to negotiate, but after much persuasion from me, finally offered that they would wave the cancellation fee. I then told them that they were not making me feel like a very valued customer, and in the end I have stayed with them, but they are meeting me half way on the rise.[SIZE=-4]MF date: Dec [STRIKE]2028[/STRIKE] 2019. I think you have had a good result really. It's a pity that you have to negotiate everything these days, i must be getting old,.;)

I got my first 3 points last year and my insurance went up a tenner when I renewed it in JanuaryThis country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0

my mum just got her first 3 points, and her insurance only went up by £10. but that was more than offset by the £130 cash back she is going to get after I renewed it via Quidco for her.Karma is a wonderful thing.0
