Radio Controlled Clock

I have an Oregon Scientific radio controlled alarm clock, supposedly accurate to within one second per so many thousand years. However, last night it decided to go four hours fast, so instead of the alarm going off at 7, it went off at 3am. The clock displayed the time as 7am and it had a full signal. It is about 4-5 years old and this is the third time it has shown the wrong time, but not for a few years now. The time was still wrong when I got up but after I took the batteries out this morning and replaced them it came back to the correct time.
Any ideas?

My ordinary analogue-but-radio-'controlled' kitchen clock occasionally goes forward four hours, when the battery is running out. Have you checked the voltages of yours?
Other than that, you could put it down to cosmic rays or other such intermittent fault in the electronics.0 -
Anthorn is responsible for the time signal in multiple parallel universes and occasionally has a glitch whereby it provides the time signal for Universe A while still in Universe B. They normally correct this fairly fast and get everybody back on track. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
