Collect+ local shop vs. home address

Just purchased an item on ebay, where the seller said they used Collect + to deliver. I therefore assumed they would know all how it works, and asked if they could send it to my local shop. What's the worst, or best that will happen, if they input that shop's address, instead of my postcode then selecting the shop location. Oh dear.

Why do you not want it delivered to your home?

It's more convenient for me to collect it from a local shop after they email me, than wait around for days hoping for the door bell to ring. Also concerned about security if item is not delivered directly to me, but a neighbour or left somewhere. The whole collecting from a shop thing is part of the point of how they work.

I see your point of convenience from collecting but unless you add the shop address before you pay the seller would have no protection if item wasn't delivered or went missing from shop.
Are they happy to deliver to the shop for you?

As a seller the whole point of using couriers with tracking is to protect against an INR, so you are basically asking seller to forgo that protection.

It might be easier to find someone who sues a Royal mail service, pay extra and colelct from the delivery office where they will log it correctly to protect the seller.

I thought it was just like collecting from a delivery office, but much closer. Plus the service has an ebay link?

Main concern with RM/courier is worst case scenario is I'm not in, someone else goes to the front door and leaves the parcel in front of my door. Other tenants don't keep the entrance to the flats locked (seems to be so they can let their mates in/laziness), and some unsavoury characters have used the hallway as a thoroughfare in the past.

Edit: seems it turned out much worse/better than expected (depending on perspective, lol). Ebayer said the Post Office didn't recommend Collect+ (surprise as it's a competing service) and they sent to my residential address.

Collect+ also do 'standard' deliveries to addresses
So the seller may have picked them as a cheap courier, not as an option for the shop drop off
However given they went to the PO,more likely they picked the wrong choice on the listing
  • If I was that seller I would deny that request, as in order to have proof of delivery that would would stand up in a dispute it must be delivered to your PayPal address.

Edit: Unless of course you used your local shop as your PayPal address.

So even though you input the actual customer address first, and the package is still tracked, it's a big no no? Seems little different to collecting from local RM delivery office to me.

At least I know for future reference. I think the seller is still new to ebay as they only have a couple feedbacks.

  • Yes, next time, if you have a collect+ package, put the delivery address on PayPal in as the shop, then ask the seller to do deliver to shop service
