Hi, claire,
Not sure what the position is now regarding talk of specific shares on MSE; it used to get squashed fairly quickly by the mods but we'll see what happens...I hold BP as part of an income portfolio and would probably buy more if I wasn't already heavily invested in oil elsewhere. I think that recent falls were overdone and that it is good value at the current price. FWIW.
Have a look at the BP board on TMF ( LINK ); you might get more informed comment there than on MSE.0 -
I've been watching BP closely too, don't profess to know much but will pass on my thoughts.
The stock looks ridiculously undervalued if $60 a barrel oil is here to stay. BP is riskier than your average oil megacorp given its concentration on exploration and production so Shell is a safer play and historically is valued as such (i.e. lower).
I was hoping 510p would stick until the new ISA season so I could take a nibble. Of course, you can't time the very bottom of a stocks price but the only reason BP is up 5% in the last week is because the oil price has jumped on Iranian sabre-rattling, no change in BP's fundamentals.
Concerns over TNK-BP, the US business and BP post-Browne still linger but a lot of this is priced into the stock price and makes it a potential bargain.
