Will old £20 Notes be accepted at a Cash Machine?

My Brother has about £80 in old £20 Notes he wants to pay into his Bank Account.
He's just phoned me up from outside the Bank (and there's about 100 people in the queue)....so he just wants to know if the Notes will be accepted at a Cash machine?
All answers appreciated.

It's up to each individual organisation whether they choose to accept them as a deposit into an account, exchange them for new ones or totally refuse them.

If not the Bank of England will in person or by post.

You may find the Immediate Deposit Machines that some branches have inside will not accept them as they are programmed to take only current notes.

However if you are paying in via an envelope then there should be no reason why any bank would refuse the old style notes as all they do is bank them.

    ?!?

My reading of it is that that was what the OPs brother was originally trying to do but - faced with being at the back of a queue of 'about 100 people' - was wondering if he could confidently just deposit it via a cash deposit machine intead

If the queue is 100 people long, I'd question whether it's wise to be paying money into that particular bank anyway! :rotfl:

I took that as "100" people being in the queue at the ATM - sorry, seems I misunderstood.

A 100 people in the queue, I've told you a 1,000,000 times to stop exaggerating.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
