Steam Iron or a Steam Generator Iron

Wow, thank you so much clairibel! There are very helpful links indeed. Although you are right, I could very well end up being more confused. Mind you, it really doesn't take much nowadays! Good to hear from someone who actually does Ironing as a business. I guess that you will really know what is a good iron and what is not.
Thank you too devildog. I would be very interested to know how you get on with your new iron!
I think it would be fair to say that I got through my load today in a record speed and I might even be tempted to say that i could start to enjoy ironing (can't believe I said that) My old Phillips wasn't too good, I could put it on the hottest temperature and iron all materials with it(seriously) and things like shirts and bedding wouldn't look like they had hardly been touched. Things are coming out looking much crisper nowMore than likely you would have to refil the water chamber more than once doing a load. Personally I haven't found it too heavy and the steam 'noise' imho is fine.
I have never used one of those steam generator irons so I really don't know how the Phillips steam iron would compare to one of those but compared to my old steam iron it's pretty amazing.
I don't know what the lifespan of them are either(think it has a 2 year guaranty) which is about how long my irons tends to last but that could be because i am usually pretty rubbish at descaling them(note to self must do it more often!)0 -
Not all steam generator irons are pressurised.
I have a Bosch one (4.5bar) and it's brilliant.
Argos sometimes have it half-price - I paid around £75 for it a while back and it's worth every penny.
Definitely go for a pressurised one with at least 4bar pressure.

I have the Phillips 4410 iron you were mentioning and can say its a good iron. I've had mine for abour 3-4 years now and have no real issues with it. I primarily got it because the cable swivels making it easier to move in circles and move the iron around things.
Can I just be really cheeky and hijack this thread to ask if anyone knows of a decent tall standing ironing board? I'm 5'8" with multiple back issues and my current Tesco-basic ironing board which at full height comes up to mid-thigh and ends up with me worsening my back pain! I thought I'd found an amazing ironing board- the shape of a person and decent height...but it was over £100 which is well out of any consideration!0 -

I second the Brabantia board, I have one supplied by my ironing boss and its brilliant, great height and very sturdy. Argos have a few. But most importantly have reviews.
