How can I find a previous insurer?

Now I know this sounds silly but....

I split with my partner around twelve months ago and didn't think to take any of my old car insurance paperwork.

I now need proof of no-claims after coming out of my company car and it appears that the ex has either chucked, burned or cast wicked curses on the old paperwork.

Is there any way at all I can find out who the car was insured with if I just have the registration number and my details?

Any help would be most appreciated as if I can't find it I'm down to one year no-claims from my company car :(

Thanks in advance.

There's no register of old policies.

See if you can find a payment record on a statement (cc/bank etc)
