Does standby flights still exists ?

Hi,

I really need to get a flight this Friday to Saturday fromBelfast to London. (or Dublin to London even) I can’t afford to pay the £160+that they are currently at. Is there any way I can get them cheaper at thislate stage?

It’s frustrating as I know these flights were £40 a few weeks agobut I couldn’t book then. I have flexibility to wait the last hour - sowondered if standby still exists or if I rang the budget airlines an hour ortwo before? am i living in la la land? lol

Ive checked gumtree for people selling flights but have had no luck :-(

Standby tickets are pretty much a thing of the past. I don't know of any airline that offer these any more. I also don't see prices coming down and there's a good chance they will go up even further before the weekend.

Buying a ticket from someone else is unlikely to do much good since a name change usually requires that you pay any difference in fare.

Try a different UK airport (realise you will have the problem/expense of getting there) but use a site such as Skyscanner and you may well get a lead to a cheaper flight (EMA > Dublin ~ Ryanair?).

If you know anyone that has some Avios saved up and would be willing to spend them on you there is plenty of availability with BA on Friday.

Belfast to London you could opt to get the train and ferry via Dublin which will cost £49. Takes a while though but it's the cheapest option.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

According to kayak, Easyjet have flights from Belfast into various London Airports for between £69 - £92 depending on which LON airport you choose.

    or Aer Lingus £70 BFS-LHR
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Stand-by flights exist for fare paying consumers in the US, but here in Europe they're long gone unless your travelling on travel staff privilages.
  • Big ask but if you can travel from cork or Shannon you can still get £60-80 on friday (one-way)
  • I looked at Avios points and considered transfering a mixture of all my other rewards schemes (tesco, united airlines, priory points) to it but I think it takes a couple of weeks to go across.

Thanks for looking for me guys, but the flights are £60-£90 one way . (and there are two of us) Just cant spend £320 on return flights at the mo. and the train / boat thing would take to long.

If you have £50 in Clubcard vouchers you could convert them to Avios in your BA Executive Club account. They are usually credited the next day. That gives you enough Avios for two people to travel to from Belfast to London and back.
