Sanding floors. Advice needed please

If you are doing an enclosed room and can shut the door, and then use a professional machine like a Bona rather than a cheap hire machine there will be very little dust to clean up.
If you are using a dusty old machine a trick to stop dust escaping from the room is to seal the room with low tack masking tape around the door frame after you go in and an old tea towel at the bottom, then you can open a window without the dust blowing into the rest of the house. And if you are doing an area near the front door seal up the letter box, you do not want leaflets dropped on your nice "wet" floor lacquer.

And if you are varnishing your hallway floor, do not varnish your way out the front door, with a view to going out for the day while it drys, then realise your child is not wearing any shoes

Good tip about the letter box:T
Haven't noticed if anyone?s mentioned the choice of refinish yet?
The problem here is that it's a floor, ok, you may have a tack free finish in 24 hrs, less if you use water based carp.
What you won't have is a surface hard enough to stand immediate wear from foot traffic and furniture.
I strongly suggest you look at 2 pack floor coatings, they are much more expensive and a little more difficult to apply due to the rate they skin up, but they are fit for purpose the next day.;)
I will have this issue in a few years as all my ground floors are solid oak, I will go with the better stuff.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Some great tips, thanks all. Im actually doing floorboards and they are both bedrooms so can easily seal to contain the dust.
We're actualy going to paint the floors rather than varnish them so it will be a case of an undercoat and then choosing a colour or thats the plan anyway but I havent researched this bit yet.0 -

Once you sand them down you may find that they are too nice to paint.0 -

I agree with CY & dia imo painted floors don't look too nice & will wear really quickly especially in kids rooms with playing etcI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
