Claiming JSA

I resigned from my job at the family business yesterday, I have been signed off sick with major depression, anxiouty by the Dr for 5 mths.
To get better I needed to leave as discussed with Dr who said it would be better for my recovery.
Can I claim JSA???
I`m planning on setting up a dog walking business but it will take time to get going, so money will be very tight.

You really need to go to the job centre, you may be sanctioned because you have given up your job voluntarily.
But you really need to go anyway to sign on to get your NI credits.
These have a major impact on your future benefits/state pension.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

When resigning from work it has to be decided whether you had just cause or not.
If you cannot show that you had just cause then you will be sanctioned and unable to receive JSA.
If your doctor has said that you should leave work because of how it is affecting your health and is willing to provide you with a letter saying this than this will probably be 'just cause'.
However, each case is looked at on an individual basis so there are no gurantees.

If the doctor has signed you off sick, then you can't claim JSA, as you're not a jobseeker. You should be able to claim ESA (Employment and support allowance), which is for people who are signed off sick by their doctor. Hang fire on the dog walking business until everything is settled, and discuss it with your ESA advisor. It would be classed as working. You also need to consider that the irregular income from a dog walking business would be pretty stressful, at a time when you're maybe not as equipped to deal with stress as you would usually be. If you find it therapeutic though, a lot of dog rescue shelters need volunteer walkers.
Hope you get sorted!"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams0 -
If you look at OP's previous posts you will see that the ESA question was covered before.
You are correct though!
OP seems to think that he wants to apply for JSA.
All connected with a family business so don't know whether the stress has been caused by this and now he has resigned things will get better.
So, he can go through the ESA or the JSA route - OP has been helped before.0
