Sky Broadband Possibly misquoted!

Where we live, we are about 1.5 miles form the exchange and the best we can get is about 1Mb/s on a good day.
We are in the sticks and about the same distance from the exchange as you and I was going to say we get +7Mb/s but I have just checked it today (speedtest.net) and it is just over 5Mb/s.
I noticed a huge improvement when I changed my old Linksys router to an all singing Billion router.0 -
Why do you want to move to BT? If the bandwidth limit in your area is only 2Mb/s then you won't get a quicker service from them either. The limit is due to either the exchange or the distance you are from it.
Most probably correct but I seriously reckon they can tweak it at the exchange end.
OP your line contract is with BT contact them and ask them to test the line for you. But as Bap says moving will not make any difference unless perhaps another company has LLU your exchange and it might be worth talking to them. Worth asking Sky when they will LLU your line (they aren't keen on giving out that info so listen carefully to what the guy says it might give you a clue)0 -
Might be worth looking on samknows.com to see what ISP products you actually have at your exchange?0

If you want to pay more money for the same broadband speed/service, then yeah, ring BT, they will gladly take you on !

Thanks guys.
We aren't in "sky broadband" area so sky are charging is £17 a month on top of the £12 line rental. I spoke to sky again last night and it turns out that there may be an issue at the exchange but that it should be sorted in the next 72 hours. If you do the uswitch speed checker it says that BT can provide up to 15mbps in my area. And I was quoted 5.4mbps to 8mbps for the new address not the old one. The old one could only get 3mbps (Which is annoying because we have always lived in quite built up areas)
Hopefully we will be getting it sorted as I currently can't even load my gmail up

As I suggested, try entering your details here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker to see exactly what's available at your exchange. Will be helpful to you if thinking of changing provider.0
