Radio losing channels randomly
Hi,
I have just bought a 2005 mini cooper, the radio keeps losing radio channels.
Althought it is not very often its getting on my nerves, I am not that well up on cars, could it be the radio, or possibly the Ariel?
I don't have a spare radio to check but wondering if anyone could shed some light on how I could locate the problem?:T
Thanks,
MK

When you say that it's losing channels, do you mean that the channels stored in its memory are vanishing, or just that the radio station that you are listening to keeps dropping off?
If it's the first one (losing the memory) then it could be that the permanent power supply connection is intermittant.
Many car radios have 2 power supplies. One which is the main switched power and is fed to the unit once the ignition switch is turned from the off position, and a second power supply which is always fed to the radio to keep the memory module powered.
If it's just the station that you are listening to that keeps fading out but the stored frequency doesn't get lost, then this could be the radio itself, the aerial or more likely, a bad connection somewhere on the aerial cable.0 -
As above, can you confirm if the channels stored in its memory are vanishing, or just that the radio station that you are listening to keeps dropping off?
I had the later problem in my car, a particluar radio station I listen to would keep dropping off. I found that turning AF (alternating frequency) off solved the problem. You should have an AF button or option for AF via a menu. AF is meant to retune the frequency as you drive but dosen't always work as intended with some stations.0 -
I had a big problem with this during Olympic fortnight , kept loosing station on both FM and DAB. As soon as Olympics over everything back to normal.. Something weird they were doing with signal transmission ? We are close to radio approach beacons into HeathrowYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! Hi,
My mistake should have been clearer. The radio is keeping the channels, it is losing the signal, i.e. going fuzzy when playing certain radio stations.0
