    It looks like the 25 year term for an 18 year requirement is where it got upheld. Not the product. Indeed, the product was generically correct for the era. Plus, we dont have the benefit of paperwork. I didnt spot that in your original post.

    Seems like a fair result on that basis.

    What happened to the Friends Provident shares which were given to policyholders when FP floated in around 2000?

    A VSP was one of the qualifying plans.

  • Yes, I remember getting shares from Friends Provident but I also have an endowment with them and I can't remember if the shares were for that or the savings plan or both.

    I suppose I will accept the offer and find somewhere to save the money until my daughter wants to use it to pay her student loan!

    Thanks for all your comments. Having read a lot of posts on this site for many years I am now of the opinion that if you feel you were wronged there,s no point just moaning about it and there's no harm in asking. I had been annoyed about this savings as I thought it would mean my daughter would have to wait until she was 25 before she could access the funds I had saved for her but thanks to this site I had the courage and knowledge to complain.
