Halifax changing ALL mortgage account numbers?

Hi, Got a letter the other day from halifax saying that later this year we are changing your account/roll number for my mortgage, we thought it best to inform you of this happening later this year and you don't need to do anything.

If I overpay my mortgage which I do I will have to ring them and re-setup this.

Anybody else been informed this.

Also We must remember to ring them up if you overpay or it reverts back to the contractual payment.

Cheers.

  • It will happen to every halifax mortgage being serviced back office as they are moving their customers onto newer systems. Nothing more than that really, maybe a slight inconvenience for you but they may just want to upgrade their IT like we all update our PC's now and then. This is probably on one gigantic scale though!!
  • but why don't they transfer the old account numbers onto the new IT system?
  • My understanding is the old numbers were letters and numbers, going forward they are all numbers so they need converting to fit into the new system.

well, if they go to all numbers, they should have an automatic process which converts any old numbers-and-letters number to the corresponding new all-numbers number ... my point is that there is no good excuse for a payment sent to the old style account number failing to reach the new account number ... if they can't do that, they are incompetent.
  • Pass........i dont know, its what they told me.

It only affecta those overpaying is how I read the letter, so the dd's are still collecting on the old references and being allocated to the new ones.

Their web site has a Q&A section. Standing orders are unaffected.
    7. I currently make overpayments by standing order. Do I need to do anything?
No. If you make overpayments by standing order these will not change.
If your direct debit rounds payments up (e.g. To the nearest £100 above) this will stop. But you can just set up a standing order to replace it when the time comes.

Once the!change is complete your overpayments by direct debit will stop. There will be a number of other options available and we'll write to you again to let you know what these are. You don't need to do anything now.

I've just recd my own letter from Halifax re the changes - and it includes a full 2 page Q&A - which discusses why the change is happening, if SOs are afffected, if you overpay by SO theres no change (but if by ddm you will need to contact them at the time), if you round up etc .... all pretty self explanatory TBH.

It also clearly explains that the change of account no is purely due to a systems migration, and nothing more.

So there really is nothing to worry about regarding the reason for the change ..... its also not on an ad hoc basis, but as a mge customer wide exercise.

Lets hope the transition is as smooth as anticipated.

    Hope this helps

i over pay what i can when i can via online banking...
i shouldnt need to do anything, correct?
have heard a few stories though, that unless you specifically tell them to reduce the term with your overpayment, they will change your monthly DD, is this an issue going forward?

From what I can gather, if you make ad hoc payment by Standing Order - there are no issues (its only regular DDM overpayments that need to be tinkered with post migration).

But, as always, best from the horses mouth .... give them a tinkle to top and tail it.
