Car Insurance premium increase when moving home.

Long time lurker, first time poster, go easy on me!

I'm in need of a little advice or experiences if anyone has had the same problem as me at the moment. As the thread title says, I've recently moved home, and when calling my insurer (Elephant) to tell them my change of address I am told that there is almost a £100 increase on my premium.

A little shocked, I contested the increase as the area I have moved to is a much nicer area in the same city as my previous address. I was offered a £17 discount on the increase.

I pushed for options like cancelling to find a cheaper quote elsewhere and was given reasons for increases (Crime rates seemed to be number 1 priority, as I was told multiple times) but not a yes or no. I asked 3 times and then assumed the foreign chap either didn't understand or wasn't allowed to answer. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they were busy but would call me back. I'm still waiting 24 hours later.

I'm confident I have given the new information, and only haven't paid increased premiums due to their requests to draw out the conversation and am not worried about cover which is my main concern.

Expecting a lively debate I did a bit of research, and thanks to wwwdot policedot uk, I've pulled up crime rates that confirm my impressions. Reported car crime and criminal damage over the past 6 months is 48% lower in my new area. Not only that, I now have a garage, rather than off street parking. I live closer to work, and have reduced my yearly milage with them. Both the garage and distance driven has been mentioned.

Am I just missing the point here, or is the insurer shafting me knowing I can't do anything about the situation? Does anyone have anything else I can use to throw at them when they bother to call me back?

Thanks in advance. :)

Get a couple of new dummy quotes with a false name, generic car, close address, but both postcodes, and see how they compare.

Comparison sited, and... Wow, the old address is cheaper... I would love to know why... Guess that undermines my argument, but, I still can't logically figure it out.

Probably different car crime. New area has cars stolen from, and claims made on the insured policies, and the old area probably has more cars with no insurance, and other none claimable offences.

Thanks for your input, it's appreciated. Wouldn't have thought of doing a faux quote on the two addresses.

    Still pretty non-plussed though. :p
