Will my credit be effected HELP PLEASE!

    The contract doesn't really say much. A whole load about what my pet is covered for and the terms of the pets cover but that's about it. There's a load on missed payments after a claim, but nothing if no claim has been made. It says cancellation can be made by post, phone or email that's it.

    Here's exactly what the contract says:

    You may cancel this policy at any time by writing to *********.......*******, to confirm the date this instruction is to take effect.

    It then says:

    Cover under this policy will terminate from the date that the premium was due in the event that the premium is not recieved 10 days after the due date.

    Then there's a load about cancelling after a claim but that doesn't effect me. And that's about it. Nothing saying they will persue a cancellation charge or that I must pay the full amount of the contract whether I like it or not. So I don't see why this would have an affect on my credit, but perhaps this is wishful thinking.

    You didnt cancel it though.

    Pay what you owe up until you actually cancelled (not just stopped paying) and it shouldnt affect your credit.

    But I didn't owe anything. I had already paid for the first and second months cover in advance. I never paid for the third month therefore the policy was cancelled i.e. I wasn't covered you are only covered if you pay for the coming month in before it starts. So how could I owe anything if I didn't receive cover?

    You did receive cover.

    However, its illegal for something to be insured twice, so an option that *might* be available is for you to prove that the cat was insured elsewhere THE WHOLE TIME THE POLICY YOU COMMENCED WAS EFFECTIVE.

    What you need to do is get a copy of the insurance that the other person set up, send it to the people who you set up insurance with, and ask them to null the policy as there was already insurance in place.

    I only received cover for the moths I paid for. My policy was a prepaid contract i.e. pay before the next months cover. It even says on the contract cover will stop if the premium is not paid by the due date and will only start again once the premium is payed. Also it will automatically be cancelled 10 days of no payment for the following months cover, therefore my policy is well a truly cancelled by now. I don't owe them anything either so I assume there is no reason for them to make a credit report.

    I'm not quite sure why you came here, you seem unwilling to listen to what people are advising you.

    You DO owe money currently.

    An option to cancel this out is to move forward with the steps I've pointed out above.

    I've just phoned the company (they have a 24 hours service), I owe them nothing, the policy was cancelled. I'm not unwilling to listen at all you said i owe them money and I'm saying I do not, and I now know for a fact that I do not owe them anything. What exactly do you want me to say when you are saying I owe money when I don't?

    I'm asking if this will effect my credit however the answers I've been getting, although I much appreciate them, are rather confusing.

    It does seem quite a confusing situation all in. If you've phoned them and they confirmed that you don't owe money, thats one good thing. It would also be handy to know if they've confirmed whether they sold any debt that they considered to exist, to a debt collection agency. If not, this is even better.

    So, find out if they ever sold your debt (regardless of whether you think you owe something or not, make the call and find out for sure), and also get a copy of your credit report from all three credit reference agencies, so that you can be sure what exists on there.

    Lets hope its all ok!
