Electoral Roll not allowing registration until October?

Not sure where to post this.

My sister has just moved back to the Uk after 4 years abroad. She has registered for the electoral roll (uk citizen) as wanting to vote and check her credit report, last registered until 2009. So she sent off the paperwork from direct gov to the city council and waited 2 months before checking credit report again. It was still not showing as registered on electoral roll today.

So today she phoned the electoral roll office at the council and they said what they do is take in all the registration forms and wait until October to process them all in one go? Surely this is not right. People need to go on the electoral roll for a number of reasons, does this mean my sister cannot gain any kind of credit until October?

Any advice would be great. Is this actually how it works or is someone trying to fob her off because they can't be bothered? I myself just automatically tick the box on the card that comes round every year that I want to stay registered at my address so have no experience of registering any other way.

There's nothing she can do about it most councils do this at this time of the year, they send out forms to every household wait for them to be returned, if people haven't returned them send them a reminder, and wait for that to be returned.

They then batch process all the returned forms (which will equal quite a few thousand pieces of paper) then send them off to the the credit reference agencies for them to process. Which i'm sure you'll agree does actually take a lot of work and time to do!!

Being on the Electoral roll doesn't mean she cant get any credit products as they use this to verify address details and confirm how long you have been at the address you say you have lived at. Being on the electoral roll for a month isn't going to make that much difference to her present situation anyway.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

The Electoral Roll's function is to permit her to vote. If a CRA does not purchase the next available data set, it will be delayed even further, so there's no sue with the council.

Any credit application will require all her previous addresses for at least. Years, and as long as she shows up at one of them, there will be no issue. She will have a credit file whether she is on the ER or not!

You might be able to get a letter from your council's electoral services office confirming your membership on the electoral roll ahead of the normal publish date. You could then forward that on to Experian, Equifax etc.
