suitable alternative role and interview

Hi all
recently been informed my role no longer exists.
The newly created role isnt what i want to do, so im taking a step down to do one of the other vacancies in my region. +protected pay and benefits.

I can't find a clear answer on Google and wonder if you could help.
Im the only one "at risk " applying for this vacancy, howand internalever the vacancy has been open 2+ months and external and internal applicants have applied.Must i go through an interview? I currently train the people doing the job ill be moving into. (I've been told its mine, but wonder about the legal side to this situation)
