Hey all,
I have moved in this country two months ago and now staying in SE10. I wondered if any cheap gas and electricity out there I can get? I have followed the threads in this forum and looked up the website called uswitch. I don't really understand the details on that website. Any ideas will help. Thanks!
Cheers
Ron

It's difficult because you don't have any previous energy usage figures to use to help come up with a cost. Therefore the price comparison sites are going to be difficult to make efficient use of. You could use average figures and maybe adjust them according to your expected usage although your property could affect that. If you use a lot of electric then adjust accordingly. If you don't like high temperatures and use gas central heating then lower the gas usage.
It's going to be a lot of guesswork and I think that energy companies are not going to like the fact that you don't have any history or energy usage figures.
Look at the moneysavingexpert energy company pages because the cash back offers could help. Moneysupermarket have a link on the moneysavingsexpert web page for £70 cashback until midnight tonight.
Don't just look at the cost, look at the service as well because you could have problems with some companies, or at least many people have.
I was with Southern Electric and overall they are very good for service in my opinion (IMO). Their prices aren't the best however so I am switching to Scottish Power's fixed until Nov 2013 with £70 cashback. Time will tell how their service is but so far I'm not that impressed. There are no exit penalties so if I'm not happy then I can switch again. That was an important feature for me.

you need a few months useage as a comparison, find out who you are with and what tariff (if you dont know the tariff then ask them) and monitor your spend, then once you know you can use the comparison sites.
i am with edf, they are a bit ropey when it comes to answering the phone but they are functional and a year after switching they are still cheapest for me, so we stick with them, i was with scottish power before, they were the supplier when i bought the house and they were quite expensive, my fiancee was with eon at her old place and hated them but the landlord wouldnt let her switch supplierWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
