How long before my for sale item appears in searchable listings ?

I don't really sell much on Ebay, normally I am a buyer, but I put an item on Ebay (UK) for sale last night, and although I can click on the link Ebay sent as confirmation of the listing, and it shows as it is supposed to, if I simply go to the Ebay homepage and search for it in the search window, it doesn't appear in any listing, no matter what search or partial search parameters I use.

I put the item for sale over 6 hours ago, and I thought that would be plenty of time.

It takes a few hours so it's not good if you choose a 1 day listing. From ebay - "Listings are updated throughout the day, so yours will be added at the next update." But they don't say how often the updates are. Anyone know?

sometimes it can take 12 hours or more to show up in the search, especially if it is a designer item or a brand which has to go through VERO checks.
Also if any revisions have been made to the listing it goes back in the queue.

i had mine take upto a day to appear - not happy when things are on a 3 day auction

average when using turbo lister is 7 hours..
