    You might consider the maxi ISA which would allow you to have the savings part of £3000 (increasing next year, I think), and the balance of £4000 (Help, please, on the actual amounts - can't be bothered to check them out) in stocks and shares via unit trusts. You can choose what type you go into, eg UK passive, European Equity, all kinds of funds with different levels of risk. This would help balance your risk profile, and again tax free because of the ISA wrapper.
