Protected No claims - house insurance

My renewal has just come through for my home buildings and contents insurance. I currently have a full protected no claims with the Halifax for which I paid extra on my premium. I have claimed twice this year - once for a repair to my ceiling following a water leak and the other time for accidental damage to my laptop. When completing online quotes you are usually asked to select from drop down boxes the number of years for which you have not claimed. Should I put that I have had claims in the past 5 years or that I have not. I am unclear on whether my protected no claims still gives me full no claims when moving to another insurer. If it does then it is worth me switching, if not, it isn't worth switching.

You have HAD two claims and must declare those. It is immaterial that you paid an extra premium so as not to lose the no claims discount that you say you have with your own company.
Failure to disclose those claims would mean that in the event of a claim with your new insurer means they would quite likely repudiate the claim.

No you need to declare the 2 claims.

NCD on Home Insurance is not like car insurance and is not normally transferrable and is more of a reward for not claiming with your current insurance.

To be honest if you still have your full ncd with your current insurer im guessing you will find it more economical to stay with them as 2 claims in a year with no douby have a negative impact on your new quotes
  • Thanks for the advice - will stick with current insurer as quote is definately cheaper. What a shame you can't transfer no claims discount as with car insurance. Luckily I have protected no claims otherwise my premium would be through the roof this year!
