Non Agency Let

Options
I am looking for a 3 bed house in Gravesend but having problems because I receive LHA, low earnings (carer), and lettings agencies (I've tried every single one) won't even look at me.

I have asked everyone with any connections to a landlord and not been able to find anything (we have an influx of London tenants looking for cheaper properties here).

Does anyone have any ideas how I find a landlord that is not renting through agencies only? I have a good credit record and deposit etc.

Comments

  • I have tried Gumtree, Rightmove, Loot.., found 3 properties on Gumtree (one wrong number, others are let) but all other ads are placed by letting agencies.

    Localpaper used o be favorite.

Watch out for scams in gumtree.... never pay a deposit upfront unless you are sure you are dealing with a genuine landlord, and a genuine tenancy!

Have you tried the local council in Gravesend? They should have an 'accredited' list of private landlords that will consider someone with your financial situation.

I live in the next county to Gravesend and my local council have such a list:

    http://www.medway.gov.uk/pdf/accredited_landlords.pdf

Although I don't think this list will help you, it might reassure you.
  • Thank you for your suggestions, but unfortunately,

Gravesend Council does not have a list of accredited landlords.

The local paper rarely has properties for rent in it.., I've been buying it for ages.

I have been looking in shop windows etc.

When I phoned Gravesend (Private housing).., they knew of my landlord ..,i.e. he's been complained about before.
  • I'm sorry, I don't know what else to suggest.

There is a lot of ads on gumtree from people looking for a property in Gravesend so rental properties of the size you need will be hard to come by.

Does it have to be Gravesend? Have you looked at other areas?
