Old Credit Cards

I have several 'old' credit cards on my credit report that haven't been used for several years, do I need to call the credit card companies to cancel them? will this then free up more credit? or as they are showing as settled on my account do they even count?

If they're showing as settled on your credit report then they are closed already. They won't disappear from your report until six years after they're marked settled.0
