EU 2 year Warranty & SOGA

I'm having trouble with a 19 month old Kodak printer which has just stopped printing properly - both photographs and plain paper prints. The Kodak warranty information says that it lasts a year or longer if required by law. However, they refuse point blank to do anything about it.
Bought from Amazon who say go back to manufacturer, yet SOGA says the retailer is responsible. I understand that the two year EU guarantee was not actually adopted because it is supposedly less stringent than the SOGA. However, in practice that is not the case - a two year warranty is just that - there would be no ground on which retailers and/or manufacturers could deny responsibility, and additionally according to my understanding the EU directive also relieves the consumer of proving that the goods were faulty when sold if they break down within the two year period. So actually by not adopting the EU directive ,UK consumers must rely on SOGA which puts the onus on them to prove an item faulty. It is therefore not strictly true to say that SOGA offers better protection.

This blog may help you understand that the EU Directive 1999/44/EC does not offer a two year guarantee.

I'll just quote one paragraph from it...
Actually the EU law talks about how long you’ve got to complain, not how long goods should actually last. And while it’s minimum 2 years, in the UK we actually get SIX years to do the same.
Here is another thread on the same subject...

I believe these printers only cost around 50 quid. SOGA may deem 19 months use OK at the price.
