Sorry if I dont use the correct terminology - credit record then? History?
All I meant was my history of credit is average. I haven't missed payments but I do have too much which I am paying off.
All I was trying to point out is that I got a debit card with RBS on a Basic account with a less then perfect credit record/history/whatever the term is.0 -
A question.
I was very disorganized with my funds. I went to Dubai for a 2 years and totally forgot about the payments. One was for my mobile contract (last payment!! which i forgot
and the other was my lloyds credit card.) Stupid I know but I have learnt from it. I had 2 defaults. Total of 900 quid. Both paid off now.
In about 6 weeks I will be back in the UK and would like to open an account. Is it at all possible that I would be able to get a natwest current account? Or is it unlikely. I am a british citizen btw.
Also, I have a bank account in Dubai. Would it be helpful for my case if i printed that out and showed them my activity?!
I have maintained it well.0 -

A bank in the UK would not take notice of statements from your Dubai account for acceptance purposes. The only thing they can do is put an application through their system and see what account gets approved for you.
Unfortunately the only way to know is to apply. I am not sure what effect your defaults will have - how old are they?0 -

They defaulted slightly more than 1 year back. Sad thing is before the defaults all payments were perfect

My oh recently went from 300 to 1500 overdraft with Halifax with 2 relatively fresh defaults AND A ccj. It appears banks do use in house referencing and will make their own call even with a bad credit file. He has only banked with them for 2 years as well. We both thought it was a bit odd and havent used the od obviously!!0

I was stunned when he showed me the confirmation, his credit file is terrible.
We don't intend on using it, but im certainly not full of it as you suggest! Telling porkies on an Internet forum ain't my bag.0 -

The defaults will obviously effect what type of account you can get, but if you are looking for a basic account with a debit card then you should apply. You wont know until you try.
If you are worried I know that the Co-op bank Cashminder account is highly recommended on here for people with problems in their credit history. It comes with a debit card and direct debit facilities. You would not get any overdraft with it but for a basic account it might be worth a look.0
