Asda CC - anyone else have problems?

in Credit cards
Anyone else had a problem getting a credit card from Asda? I've never had a credit card in my life before but decided that as I'd be going on maternity leave in the not-too-distant future, I'd get one now whilst still in "regular" employment.
I work full time and earn at least comparable to most people my age (23) if not more to be completely honest.
I don't own my home (live with partner so I just pay him rent essentially) but I've never been in debt of any kind. We've recently just been through credit checks as we're to be getting a joint mortgage soon as the mortgage report came back with an "exceptional credit rating" for me (as I cant be anything other really!!)
Yet I applied for Asda CC (as thought I could use it on petrol to get the pennies back) only to be instantly told online that my application would go no further. They couldnt tell me exactly why but said it could be anything such as my age group and likelihood of my age group being able to pay their balances off, etc. Or indeed things like a bad credit rating, etc.
I can only assume its my age but surely 23 in full time employment (and good employment!) is OK by them!?? Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem with them?

any help or suggestions - all welcome !
I obtained an ASDA credit card, this is where I shop every 2 weeks spending approx £200+ - I set up a direct debit to ensure the balance was cleared - not wanting debt for food !
My card has this week HAS been refused ! I died on my feet didnt know where to put myself ! fortunately, I could pay on my switch.
Clearing the balance monthly, I thought not a problem - but ASDA had decided to put the money I spent in December (mega xmas spend) back into my bank account and the debt deposited in February - they were doing a christmas offer buy now pay later, on top of that for some reason - they can not tell me why - they did not take the direct debit from my account for February - Therefore I now have a debt of £800 and stood at the till extremely embarrassed !
I telephoned the credit card customer services and asked why was I not asked if I wanted this promotion , to be told it was something they did over the christmas period to everyone, and also they dont know why they have not asked for payment in February ! Therefore, I am expected to pay for December shopping come July, oh yes and if it the DD bounces I will get charged plus I will start being charged interest ! - CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IS THIS LEGAL, CAN THEY DO THIS - AND PLEASE WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT IT -
ASDA have now lost a good customer0 -
I got a card on the spot while doing my shop in Asda - they were offereing £15 off your shopping if you took a card out that day! I took it out..got £15 off ....paid in full...and never used it again!!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

I have one after first getting refused but only with a £500 Credit Limit, which compared to my other two cards and others I've opened in the past was a joke, but sufficient as I only want it for fuel.
There customer service is crap, takes ages to answer the phone and the online service is down more than it is up.
I set up a direct debit to pay in full each month so it's cleared and so far they have taken the full payments only three to date though.Cheers

SarahLou, it dosn't seemr, does it? but the reason might be that you havn't had any credit before.
Who ever you bank with are likely to give you a card first. This might help you then to be able to get one which actually rewards you. Like the Asda card and petrol.
I was asked in the store to sign up for one and went for it for the petrol. I've only got a tempory one at the moment, still waiting for the official one to come through. Don't like the idea of them not collecting the direct debt though. I'll keep an eye on that.
I normally use Egg Money which gives you cashback up to £200.000
