Taking a child out of UK on hols without father

I have had a look through some threads that cover this subject, as rules change all the time I wonder what the most recent advice is.
My husband, my daughter, her daughter and myself will be traveling to Spain next week.
Her partner can not make the trip due to work commitments, but he has no problems at all with us all going off to enjoy a bit of sun.
We suddenly wondered how it would affect the three year old that is traveling with us a she has her fathers name.
Anyone that knows where to find the right website or who to ask, please chip in an let me know. Time is running out!
Even if the father went to the airport with us to say he had no reason to stop the child leaving UK he would not be able to be in Spain if any problems arose there.
Thanks

I fled Ukraine with DD2 a few weeks ago to our native Georgia for personal reasons.

A simple letter should suffice in these circumstances.

A simple letter should be enough just stating that he's ok with you travelling without him.

Also ensure that she has her own passport as you are longer able to travel on a parents passport and must have your own for each person.

We took 2 foster children on holiday with a letter from social services - never had cause to show it.

    Have a great holiday :)

while you might not get asked for a letter of permission from her Dad, on the other hand you might (I got asked for one for my niece when we landed back at Luton airport after our holiday).

So letter from Dad, saying he is her Dad, give his contact details, and he is aware and gives his permission for his daughter to travel to Spain with her Mum.

Bit pointless asking for it after you've returned to the UK! I took my son away to europe without his father and he has his surname. Had no problems at all but best to be on the safe side I suppose as things may have changed in the last 15 years

Have to say, I've never ever been asked questions about my children with different surnames to me when leaving the UK or entering any other country, only when returning to the UK. Only last week I was asked what relation my 17yo sons were to me when we arrived back at Gatwick.

The most worrying was when I took my 9 month old daughter, with her very English surname, to Portugal, at a time when I had a Portuguese surname, travelling with my sons, also with their Portuguese surname. No-one batted an eyelid.

Both my daughters were questioned about their children who have a different surnames, even the 17yr old, they were advised to always carry the children's birth certificates or copies when going abroad. This was at Luton airport 2wks ago.
