I RECENTLY CANCELLED MY CAR INSURANCE THROUGH SWINTON INSURANCE BROKERS AND I HAD THE BIGGEST SHOCK OF MY LIFE.
THEY INFORMED ME IT WOULD COST ME £165.00 TO CANCEL.....
i GOT RID OF MY CAR TO SAVE ME MONEY, THEN THEY TELL ME THIS..
APPARENTLY IT IS BECAUSE I WAS PAYING MY INSURANCE BY DIRECT DEBIT

When I cancelled bike insurance once I had a cancellation fee to pay and a short term insurance fee to pay.
Unfortunately the fees will be in the Terms and conditions somewhere.0 -

Not much help now but it will be in the terms and conditions somewhere. We recently downsized from a 2 car family to a one car family. One car insurance was transferred to the new car but when we sold the 2nd car the insurance company charged an "admin fee". To be fair it was nowhere near what you have paid. I tried all sorts of tactics to have it waived, none of which worked.
It's one of these things that we have to learn from and be aware of for future.

A few things....
Firstly, insurance is an annual contract, not a month-to-month rolling contract, so they are permitted to levy fees if you wish to breach the contract and cancel. This fee will be detailed in your policy documents.
Secondly, any cancellation would not be representative of the months used. Ie, if you cancel after 6 months, your refund will not be representative of 6/12s of the premium - you will be charged a premium for 'short term' insurance. Again, these rates will be in your policy document.
Thirdly, any optional extras that you may have taken out, such as breakdown cover or legal assistance, will not be refundable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
