Cheers people, didn't realise sri Lanka was so close, we both like clubs and bars so I'm guessing Dubai is a no go area?
Whats Sri Lanka like for nightlife?
Thanks again everyone0 -
Are you sure Maldives would be for you? There's very little dance, and I'm not convinced you wouldn't get bored quickly. I'm not sure Sri Lanka is known for its clubbing scene, but someone may correct me.
Have you considered the Caribbean, Mexico and Thailand. All known for their great beaches and sea, and there are some very good quality hotels.
I loved the Maldives, but we went to one of the livelier islands (Kuredu) and it was very chilled. I loved doing nothing, but if you bore easily you may hate it.0 -
Sri Lanka is more a cultural holiday. We toured there a couple of years ago and unless you can find a hotel with a nightclub I would very much doubt if you will find one in any of the holiday destinations.
As has already been said The Maldives are very much a total get away from it all, lie back and relax holiday. We went to Biyadoo this year for the diving and snorkelling. Brilliant holiday but the islands are very self contained. Biyadoo had just the one bar and definitely no nightclub or dancing:rotfl:
If you want active nightlife then west is probably best as has been suggested above.0 -
Err, since when have Jet2. served the Maldives??Bob_the_Saver wrote: »Leeds Bradford to Male, can't see that one on the list - shame
As the Op did not put the location of where they wanted to fly for, I can't read minds.

The wet season- southwest monsoon runs from mid-May to November. In this season Maldives experiences torrential rain.
I've been twice in June/ July and not seen any rain, so whilst it is the rainy season, it isn't every day, or indeed every week.

If you are going to go to the Maldives you need to use a quality operator, such as Kuoni. Jet2(!) and Mercury Direct tend to be aimed at the lower end of the market.0 -
I did sri lanka and then onto maldives but not sure how sri lanka is these days in terms of unrest ?
Neither places for 'going out'. Sri lanka you will find some places to eat and have a drink etc but its mainly a sight seeing place. Maldives is very quiet and if you like action and entertainment you might get bored. Its a place to sit in quiet and laze on the beach or dive. Also although the cheaper time I would avoid June. Weather is not as good and it would be a shame to go all that way and have bad weather. I went with Thompson ( and would never go anywehere with them again - they were rubish ! ).0 -
You can book direct with plenty of resorts so that may be an option and sort flights out separate, esopcially if you only want say 3 or 4 nights on an island.
May June time is start of wet monsoon season but that doesn't mean it will definitely rain. It will be warm at aorund 30/33 degrees as it is all year round.
Why not do Dubai as well on way out for your nightlife fix. plenty of choice of nightlife, clubs, bars etc within resorts and elsewhere. Muslim yes, but very liberal views on certain tourist activitites!
if its your gf dream holiday be shame not to try the Maldives if you have the chance - its a pretty unique place0 -
Been to the Maldives twice - two weeks last May and 11 nights this June/July, May was definitely wetter but mid May has historically marked the changed from NW to SW monsoon so weather can be unsettled. We had some glorious weather this year but as said before, it's always warm! I know people who have been in peak season and had three days of rain so it's out of anyones control.
We have booked throug Kuoni and H&J so far, both fine but I prefer Kuoni over all and have booked with them again for honeymoon in April.
The Maldives are amazing and no other beach holiday will ever live up to it in my eyes but it's true they are for relaxing, it's an art form trust me! Personally, Dubai is my idea of hell so I would say just head straight for the Maldives but Dubai or Sri Lanka are both good combinations.
If you do go to the Maldives pick your island wisely, work out what it is you most want from your holiday and go from there, the TA Maldives forum can be incredibly useful for that.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013
