Energy saving spot lamps.

I would like to replace my R80 spot lamps with energy saving ones (11, 13 or 15W). Must be same size as standard spots, 115mm x 80. Can anyone suggest a source at a competitive price? Best I can find is about £10 per lamp which seems a bit steep to me - it would take years to pay back capital outlay.

what about these http://www.yourwelcome.co.uk/acatalog/Reflectors.html
£4.80 each if you buy a pack of 6Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!0 -
Thanks Andrew. They are 125mm long which means they would protrude by 10mm. I'll have to think about whether that would be a problem, probably get away with it.0

Look at the Megaman range of lamps, they are a little more pricey but last twice as long with no appreciable size difference on the R80 model. I have to examine energy saving lamps as part of my job, and I feel that they are a good product.0

Thanks Mr b. I did see these but the best price I could get was £100 for 10. The adverts are for £8 each but that is without VAT and delivery. They are the right size though. Do you have any experience of them in use? I know some energy efficient lamps can be a bit slow to start up and get to optimum brightness.0

I'm glad this question popped up. I'm just about to fit a number of downlighters in our new kitchen and utility. I was considering the use of low energy bulbs but didn't think they were available for these fittings yet.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0

The LED R80 is very interesting. I must try to find out what its equivalent brightness is compared with tungsten lamps.0

I was going to fit LED and found out the light output is quite low. I opted for these http://www.eurobatteries.com/sitepages/description6.asp?id=2080&cat=Energy%20Saving%20Lighting They look good (much better than in the pic) and don't appear to have the normal lag and flicker that is associated with florescent lights.0
