Can't connect to Internet after first full Mcafee scan

Hoping someone can please help me.
Two or three days ago I installed the BT net protect plus which they promote on the My BT site.
I ran a few short scans which didn't mess anything up but didn't find anything either.
Tonight I did a full scan and now cannot connect to the Internet on my laptop. I know the home hub is working ok as I have borrowed an iPad to type this on.
My laptop is running Vista. I just got off the phone after two hours with the bt Indian call centre and they have not been able to help at all. When they told me to uninstall the Macafee and I followed their instructions via control panel it said it had been uninstalled already (but it hadn't and it is still there)
Apparently the only other way to uninstall it is to go online but I obviously can't do that on my laptop.
Any ideas please folks or has anyone had the same problem?
Thanks.

turn off the firewall and or try connecting with a cable instead of wireless.
download the mcpr tool on another machine.

when you get it working again, try this instead.

transfer the tool onto the machine you're having issues with and get rid of mcafee altogether....
and install a decent anti-virus - mcrapee isn't called that for nothing......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Thanks for your thoughts guys. We only have one lappie and an Ipad so transferring wasn't an option. Mind you I didn't see yur replies til just now. Here's what worked anyway in case it helps anyone else.
I tried system restore from normal log on and that didn't work. Indian chap couldn't get it to either. So as a last resort about half an hour ago I tried system restore from safe mode. RESULT. Chose a point ages before I installed Mcafee and it has gone! Internet resumed. Happy me.
Thanks to all who offered solutions.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
