EBay, Jean Patrique & others - P & P and other charges

Options
Beware of firms online, like Jean Patrique (JP), which charge extortionate amounts for packing and postage and other items such as insurance. The latest offer I have received from JP is a stainless steel knife set supposedly worth £29.99, for £2.99 plus £9.99! for p & p and insurance. The trick here is that if you decide you are unhappy with the product, you can get a refund e.g. under the Distance Selling Regulations, but only for the purchase price. So you may get your £2.99 back but not the £9.99!! These firms make a killing because they keep the delivery etc costs and get the product back!

I especially notice this on EBay. I bought a car key repair service for £16 by under offering - it was £18 but you could make an offer. Another firm was also charging £18 but £3.50 of that was for p & P. So I went for the other one because if anything went wrong, I could claim the whole of the amount I paid (instead of only £14.50).

Under DSrs retailers should refund the full amount of the price for falty goods and cannot retain thep and p part.

On eBay if a buyer wins an SNAD claim again they get the full amount back.

You can report the extortionate p&p charges to eBay as they are losing out on commission which is only paid on the item sale price.

The 'extortionate amount' is £3.50, hardly extortionate!

    Read the OP's WHOLE post.
  • They mentioned it in a vent about P+P costs and DSR, hence they weren't happy with paying £3.50 for postage.
