Seller not aware of Paypal fees and feels short-changed.

Just received a second chance offer and took it up, paying on paypal straight away. Total was £82.51. Seller contacted me asking why I paid £3.10 less. I was perplexed at first and replied with an email explaining I have paid the full amount. Then looking into it, the difference accounts for the 3.4% + 20p charge Paypal make for receiving money. The seller has low feedback suggesting they do not use ebay much.
Just sent an email to the seller with a link to paypal fees page, explaining it was a standard charge, and offered to pay the £3.10 with paypal gift. Was tempted to send the £3.10 off their way regardless, hmm... Thoughts?
Do paypal really not make their fees clear when you receive money? (I haven't received money through paypal from selling in ages).
TIA.

First few items I sold I did a similar double take on the amount which cleared into my Paypal account.
Bet the seller feels a bit silly, I like the way you handled it though, very diplomatic.0 -
Are you sure that Paypal fees were the reason. You may be right, but is it possible the seller thought that the second chance offer would be for the same amount as the winning bidder's sale price and not the price you bid up to? The latter would obviously be less, and quite possibly by £3.10.Just received a second chance offer and took it up, paying on paypal straight away. Total was £82.51. Paypal are a business too, they make their money to keep the service going. They do make their fees clear - at some point it needs to be up to people to actually read the pages where fees are outlined.
It was a nice gesture - but on that value of sale, it's reasonable to expect to pay something."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
