New York holidays in 2013

I need a bit of advice from people who been to New York for holidays. Basically, we never been in the USA and I promised my boys who will be 8 and 14 next year that I will take them to New York for a week. I would like to know when is the cheaper time to go (must be during any school holidays/half term) and if my budget of £3000 will cover flights, hotel, food and basic sightseeing (sightseeing tour) for at least 6-7 days. I do not really know where to start: to book flights first or hotel? I will do my itinerary of stay later after I do my research. I would need an advice with the best time to travel and who to book with. Thank you.

Thanks Claire; it seems that August flights were not released yet; I am trying to compare April-May-August prices. I read somewhere that New York is not a very popular destination for August - does it mean the prices are lower in August?
I would pick April. And May second choice.
August will be very hot and not nice for walking around NYC especially with kids hence why its not as popular then, but the prices wont be any lower unfortunately.
The flight sales are on now, so have a look on the BA and American Airlines websites, you might find a deal, they were starting at £450 to NY when I looked yesterday. You could also look on BA for a hotel and flight combined holiday, or Expedia, Ive used them twice to go to NYC and saved a lot on the hotel.0 -
Hi!
Schedule flights like these go on sale around 10 months before departure so you'll probably find August 2012 on sale at the start to middle of October this year.
I'd probably say April may be best for you as August is really warm and not really nice weather for walking around in.
Have a look at Netflights website, they offer packages and this is where we would always book.

I wold agree with all the others who've said avoid August. We were there at the end of July this year and the humidity was almost unbearable. We ended up not being able to do a few of the things we would have liked to do and the combination of heat, humidity and adjusting to the time difference meant we were all exhausted by late afternoon/early evening.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
