Isle of Wight I'm looking for a cheap ferry

Any tips for finding the cheapest car ferry or special offer. I am going in the summer holidays when they hike the prices up. I do not want a very early or night crossing as I have 2 young children, but am flexible to what day or what route I take.
I have tried to navigate wightlink quotes but after filling in all my detail it tells me that the tickets are not available  So far Red funnel seems the best option at around £50 Southampton to East Cowes are there any regular Isle of Wight travellers her that can help me
Thanks

I usually find the best route is Lymington to Yarmouth (I have family in East Cowes) and it is much nicer driving on the island than it is round Southampton! Plus I think it was cheaper on that route when I went, although I must admit I did the evening crossing at about 9pm or so when it is cheaper.

    Hope you have good hols

We always go Red Funnel from Southampton - because they are the cheapest ! (at least for the time of day that we go !)

I've found Red Funnel cheaper than Wight Link (the 3 summer times I've been in the summer), though the Portsmouth Wightlink ferrys were dearer than Yarmouth. If it helps I think Wightlink tickets could be bought with Tesco Clubcard deals... And sometimes 2 singles is cheaper than a return - depending on how long you are staying/time of day etc
  • Anyone got any contacts for a self catering place on IOW? 2 small kids so beach and sandcastle making are priorities. Has to be August because of school holidays.

If you can avoid the weekend it can be a bit cheaper but the Solent is an expensive stretch of water to cross! As has already been suggested, Red Funnel is usually cheaper but you can use Teso vouchers on Wightlink. If you've found a £50 return in the summer holidays I'd book it as it's dirt cheap!
Pity those of us who live here who have to pay these prices to go anywhere else!

Edit: Avoid any dates around Cowes Week!

Would be interested in cheap ferry on 16th jun to IOW & return 23Jun.
Any suggestions would be great. Promotional codes in IOW local papers?

    Help & thanks

I doubt you'll get any special offers at that time of year on a Saturday! Many accommodation providers are able to offer discounted tickets so ask before you book. Don't leave it too late to book as you won't get it any cheaper and you won't have much choice of travel times.
    Have a good holiday.

Where did you see the £50 fare?

It may work out cheaper at times to get 2 day returns.
  • Have just booked return for £57.50 on Wrightlink Thursday to Monday not bad could have got cheaper but prefer 1/2 hour on ferry to an hour if you go via Southampton also as live in Essex this is a quicker/shorter route. Would also have used the Tesco Vouchers as best value but as did this last minute best I could get. Hope this helps
