Dodgy Ink Cartridge

I'm having a huge clearout at home and recently put a Lexmark 27 ink cartridge. I no longer have a Lexmark printer and was hoping to make a pound or three. It was still boxed and still in the plastic packaging.
It sold to someone in Spain for about £4. The day I sent the item, I had a strange message saying PLEASE CONTACT ME. I replied and said I had sent the package and what the matter was. No response.
A week later, I have had a message saying "Thanks for the ink, but only sky is working". I assume they mean that only blue is working and the tri colour element is not working. I replied and said "Is the ink compatible with your printer" and they said "I think so".
Do I give a full refund straight away, or do I ask for it to be posted back to me? If I ask for it to be posted back, am I liable for the item price, initial posting and return posting?
I think from now on, I will just bin the stuff I have left. It seems to be more hassle than it's worth selling on eBay!

If the cartrages has been knocking about for a while it may have passed it's expiration date (I think they're printed on the packaging).
For the sake of a few quid, it might be worth sucking it up and refunding.
You could ask the buyer to send it back, but that might cause more aggro than it's worth.0 -

It was a Lexmark one which was hanging about for a few months in my room.
I think you are right, I may as well refund and take it on the chin.0
