cars on ebay

I had the winning bid for a car on ebay. on the description when it says Service History Available, the answer was yes. As far as I know for that type of car a sevice should be done every 9000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. however this car fulfills the service history for the mileage, but not the second condition. I.E the last service was done three years ago, and the car was parked in a garage. Is this a full service or not. and can I say this is an item not as described. the reason I am asking is when I try to sell it, does it have full service or not.
Thanks for your suggestions

As I work for a car dealer ship, and deal with 11 franchise's, this should have been advertised as partial service history. Like you say, a full service history means just that every ?milage or 12months (depending on make & model) as some do vary, but vehicles I work with, never go more than 18,000 miles or 24months. As you say, it was last serviced 3yrs ago, this has gone way over
I would ask the seller and make comments regarding this. And just see if he can offer you a reduction in the price for the invalid information he provided.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
perhaps there is a reason why it has not been serviced?
Does it have a valid MOT?0 -
the service history is available - just it hasn't been serviced every year as necessary0

I used to work for trading standards, and in law full service history means very little,, ie if the car had 130,000 on the clock and had only been serviced once at 5,000 but the owner had the record of that, then they have the full service history!! The fact that the car had not been regulary serviced is a total different matter.
When buying a car you need to ask if its been serviced every year as per the manufacturers guide, not whether they have the full service history, as you can see in the example above, its not the same thing.Always on the hunt for a bargain0 -
I doubt that you could use that as an "item not as described" get-out unless the person advertising the car specifically said that it had always been serviced according to the manufacturer's instructions.
You'll find that most people will not bother with the time-based servicing requirements as it is somehow ingrained into people's minds that cars need servicing every x thousand miles and everything else is just a ploy by manufacturers to separate them from their money.
That said, depending on the price of the car and its general condition (and the reason for the non-servicing; has it been off road or only used for short journeys, in which case it should have been serviced more often anyway), I'd just factor in the cost of a full service to change all the fluids that tend to age and give the car a good once-over.0
