How to post a CD?

Options
Jiffy bag? Or plastic mail bag?

I generally post them in mail bags, but the last one I sold, the buyer messaged me saying something like 'wow you have good luck cos the cd arrived unbroken'... Now I'm worried to send in a plastic bag in case anything happens to the cd :(
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

You'd need some padding around a CD - a mailing bag wouldn't be sufficient to protect it in the post. I'm not surprised someone commented; I might too.

Try buying padded envelopes from a pound shop if you need to keep costs down, or buying in bulk if you have a number to sell.

It would be necessary at the very least also to get some bubble wrap to put around the CD, but the unit cost would be similar to finding a cheap padded envelope and pulling it tightly around the disc's box.

  • The other option, that I used to use when selling online was a corrugated wrap around book mailer. This is similar to what Amazon use. Search online for Book Mailers.

Very very expensive though- much cheaper to buy the appropriate sized jiffy and use that. Don't use too large a jiffy bag though as rattling around loose can also cause issues, get one that is a snug fit.

You can buy a cd postage box in the post office for about quid, just add it the postage cost

No buyer is going to pay £1 for just the packaging!

A decent jiffy is likely to be less than 10p, and buyers don't even like much more than 10p being charged over the cost of a stamp for post and packing.

Go look on ebay, CDs are going for pennies half the time and with postage around the £1.25 mark. £1 for a box and £1.10 for the stamp will not go down well

If you sell a lot, the cd mailers are much better. A jiffy is just a bit of bubble wrap in an envelope. Buy in bulk.

I always used to wrap in clingfilm then put in a normal jiffy bag, there were never any complaints.
If you wanted to make sure then use 2 bits of corrugated card larger than the cd case and then wrap in clinfilm.

I once picked up loads of CD sized mailing boxes cheap when PC world were clearing out stationary ages ago, and they seem to do the job. Have to say I'm one of those who gets really distressed to see a cracked CD case, or when all the bits in the middle are all snapped off. Lol.
Wanted a job, now have one.
