I took my kids to coney beach yesterday but my youngest child don't like the small rides outside the arcades/shops so i thought i would take her on one of the rides in the fair so she wouldn't feel left out while my other daughter went on the rides, So i put her in the front of the plane and the operator put the seat belt around her and i got in the back, then all of a sudden my daugher started crying and started to get out so i asked the operator if it would be ok to sit her on my lap and put the seat belt around both of us, he then told me that he don't know if it's allowed (Or looked like he didn't care) but he let me sit her on my lap and then started the ride. Then when my oldest daughter went on the rides i noticed the ride operator would start checking there mobile phone or start smoking a fag once they have started the ride

NO! Wearing a seat belt round parent and child is dangerous!
Either the child will simply slide out or the adult will crush the child against the seat belt. Even worse is no restraint at all.
If you were concerned why did not simply get off the ride?
Your child's safety is your responsibility, not the ride operators!

As a parent you do have a responsibility for your child's safety and if you felt the rides were not safe you should have gotten off...but I disagree with the posters above that seem to say that the child's safety is solely the responsibility of the parent and not also the ride operator. Ride operators are responsible for the safety of their rides and the safety of people (children and adults) when they are on the ride - and so they should be since very few members of the public properly understand the risks associated with rides and what needs to be done to minimise risks. The operators should understand these things and take the appropriate steps to minimise risk - if they don't and someone is injured they'll be answerable.
OP - you could call your local authority (environmental health) to make them aware of the seatbelt issue.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
