Uniform Washing Allowance

Hello,

I hope this is the right place to ask. Has anyone claimed the allowance for washing your own uniform? We were wonderng if they contact your employer, as my husband would be embarassed by this!

    I claimed it for the years I wore a uniform, why on earth would he be embarrassed?

    they will contact your employer. Might be worth casually dropping it into a conversation with your husbands boss before he goes ahead.

    makes no difference to the employer though so can;t see it being a problem. Its just one document they have to sign to agree he is using logo'd workwear and there aren;t cleaning facilities on site (or it was, I signed one years ago on behalf of myself for my company)
  • Does not necessarily need a logo on it - just needs to be workwear that you could not wear for anything else. Like a horrible brown or burgandy pair of trousers/ t shirt combo sort of thing. You get the idea.
    I clamined this for my OH 2 years ago - his work wear does not have a logo, but it is obviously the firms workwear and although they provide cleaning facilities - they did not supply enough uniform for the scheme to work, so everyone washed their clothing at home. So now we get £12 per year back or an extra £60 on the tax code is how it works out. Not much I know, but it pays for some of the costs.
