We are thinking of going abroad to either corfu or spain next year. Having looked on thomson, there are some dates with free child places but they appear more expensive than other dates without free child places. Is this normal practice?

When you get a free child place on a package holiday you'll always pay higher supplements than not having a free child place. Always best to search for both options. Also try pricing the holiday with everyone paying a adult price as you will sometimes get a full occupancy discount. This all depends upon how many people are going!
