We need a second car but know nothing about cars. It must be auto and ideally have A/C. It would do low mileage mostly in town. Must be hatchback or estate. Not interested in "performance", a steady reliable workhorse wanted. Not interested in a status symbol or depreciation, we keep our cars till they drop. Must suit a 6 footer. Could be new or secondhand.

I will have to pay whatever I need to pay Troubleatmill. I guess we are looking at about £10000 but I would need to think about it when I have a car in mind.

Have a look at the Skoda Fabias 1.4 TDI in either 70.80 or 100bhp guise
all of them are available with the bits you need & can be had for under 10k
Not bad cars either0 -
I second mcfisco, the Skoda's are a superb purchase (Although if you look carefully you will find that Skoda residuals are now nudging if not exceeding those of its sister company (VW)). Therefore I would suggest having a look at the Skoda and the VW Golf as both are the same, the Skoda will tend to be better equipped though.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Ditto what the other posters say.
I would go for a Skoda Octavia. Plenty of room for a six-footer, and the boot has a huge capacity. Go for an Elegance model if possible, which should come with all the equipment you need.Lack of money is the root of all evil.
