Selling a car abroad

Hi
I have a classic car for sale and have a potential buyer from Slovakia who is coming over in a weeks time to view it.

I will only accept cash for it but i gather that i have to take him to my bank with the money to deposit it - to check that the notes are legit - i work full time and the deal would be done in the eveniing when the banks are closed and am a little concerned.

Would i fill in the export part of the v5?

Any advice much appreciated.

If you are unable to take him to a bank or check that the notes are legit yourself, don't sell it to them. V5C is his problem, you just fill in the details they present you with and if it comes up as an issue (it wont), you say you thought they said Slough, not Slovakia.
Unless its a very, very hard car to shift, why cause yourself so much grief?

I've never bought anything that cost more than £7.5k but have always paid cash and never had a trip to a bank to check the notes. Forgeries are easy to spot or if you are that bothered get one of the checking lamps or pens rather than turning a willing buyer away.

As for the V5, I think you fill in the normal sales bit and the buyer has to notify the export when he actually exports it.

What to do if you are selling your vehicle privately to someone that does not have a GB address
[FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman]You should fill in sections 6 and 10 with the new keeper’s name and address. Both you and the new keeper (buyer) must sign and date the declaration in section 8. Give the whole V5C to the new keeper to aid registration abroad.
You should then send a signed letter to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AG giving the vehicle’s registration number, the make and model of the vehicle, the date of sale or transfer, and the name and address of the new keeper.
Once we know about the change of keeper, you should receive an acknowledgement letter to confirm that you are no longer responsible for the vehicle. If you do not receive the letter within 4 weeks, please phone 0300 790 6802. If you are deaf or hard of hearing and have access to a textphone, phone 0300 123 1279 (this number will not respond to ordinary phones).

I sold mine to a guy in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. He obviously could not sign the logbook as he was on the other side of the world. I just filled out the export section, sent that to the DVLA, and sent the rest of the logbook to the buyer. DVLA were fine with this.

Sold mine to a guy in France. He transferred money from his bank to mine same day as he inspected (cost him an extra 25 euro as I recall) - easiest transaction I have ever had. I notified DVLA in accordance with advise given by Spiro above.

My Merc went to Nigeria, what's the problem? Take an hour off at lunch time to sort it out.

"I work full time" sounds like an excuse and if you need an excuse find another buyer.
