There was a bit in there about media items though - CDs, DVDs etc. and they were weighing up whether to take them to Music Magpie.
OP doesn't need to take out pro membership either. I haven't.

OK - yes, I see what you're getting at now
. Apologies
.
With the media items then I'd use Amazon, given the above suggestions. eBay might be better for other stuff - Soo's right on that. I think you might have to bite the bullet if you want to realise a bit of cash - otherwise you'll be struggling to realise anything."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

That sounds the most reasonable solution, given the value of the items. Put the more valuable ones onto Amazon or eBay - those sites will still pay better dividends on valuable items, despite fees - and give the rest to MM.
I am working my way through the CD's but keep playing them and reminissing while I load them on itunes so this is gonna take a while, Diamond Dogs, Tubular Bells, Bat out of Hell, have me sitting here with a silly grin. I have only had 2 so far that look like they might be worth listing elsewhere.petersoftware wrote: »I would suggest that you put the items you most likely think will sell on eBay. As you know eBay charge a fee for listing, so you don't want to add anything that you are not sure if it will sell.
Other items could be put on Gumtree, LocalSquare, and Friday-Ads. I don't think any of these sites charge for local non commercial ads.
Hope this helps.
I have been looking up some of our items and there is a market for them on ebay, some I have been surprised by, I will list those items as they will be well worth the time listing and posting. The larger saleable stuff is on gumtree the large unsaleable stuff is on freecycle and will be going to local recycling centre if no one wants them.Bite the bullet and do a boot sale. Have everything clearly priced up in advance. Take sturdy paste tables and don't put stuff on the ground. When you arrive park up, stay in the car, lock the doors and have a cup of coffee until the initial rush has passed by. Keep anything valuable at the back of the table and make sure you don't go alone so that you can keep an eye out for thieves.
Thanks we have decided to do this with everything that is left as there is still quite a bit and we will follow your advice.

Be careful what you admit to!
Unfortunately if you rip them to iTunes you have to keep the originals - it would be unlawful to get rid of the hard copy and still keep the soft copy. This is down to copyright issues as you effectively get a free or discounted copy of the album in this way.
I have a whole heap of CD wallets with CDs I have loaded onto iTunes and lost/broken the cases for (when I had a discman I used to get frustrated at carrying round loads of jewel cases so I bought some wallets to have a good choice of CDs every day), but there are still some in a shoebox which I've bought in the last couple of years solely to put onto iTunes (as I no longer have a working portable CD player) but cannot legally sell without erasing the music from disc. I buy most stuff on mp3 now but still occasionally browse CD racks, particularly for obscure/foreign stuff. I brought back loads of cheap pop CDs from Lithuania when I went 18 months ago which are fun."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

You could set up a stall outside your house, advertise in your local free paper, newsletter, advert in a local supermarket/newsagent.
If you've lots of stuff, stick a board up outside your home advertising garage/shed type sale on a specified date (weather permitting).
Cheapcycle, Gumtree, freeads/loot.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0
