which debit card can i get?

I am moving to the UK in a few weeks for uni. I am a british citizen but I have not lived in the UK for the past 2 years. I also sadly do not have proof of my last address.

I would like to know if I can open any account in the UK without getting any monthly charges.

for example is the natwest select account good for me? I do not want an account where I have to maintain say 3000 pounds or I would get charged a small fee.

I would like an account which allows for deposits to be made from abroad, can get cash from the cash machines and also pay for products online. I would also like to have an account where I can say hold 1000 pounds without getting charged.

Also if i open a debit card with no overdraft option will I get a credit check?
thanks

Is there a branch associated with the university / campus where you'll be studying (UMIST maybe?) - I'm sure they are used to dealing with people in similar situations to you.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

The big banks compete for student accounts. They have branches near major universities which are geared up to open hundreds of new accounts at the start of the academic year, both for British and overseas students. Take passport, university paperwork, any paperwork about your financial support.

They won't expect a minimum balance and they won't charge any monthly fees. They'll probably want you to have a large interest-free fee-free overdraft.

Last time I went to Manchester Uni i was asked to maintain 3k in my account. I could not get any other account since I had no UK address for 3 years prior to opening the account.

I am a british national btw
